We would like to invite you to the first edition of the CCO Symposium, organized within the research line ‘Contingency,Culture & Oncology’ (CCO) of the Medical Oncology department (Amsterdam UMC).

The CCO research line focuses on investigating theexperience of (incurable) cancer as a form of contingency: a life-alteringbevent that could have unfolded differently and raises existential questions, bsuch as loss of meaning and purpose in life. Due to innovations in treatment, such as immunotherapy and targeted therapies, people are living longer withbadvanced cancer, which may create a need to integrate this experience into their life story. In collaboration with various partners from diverse institutions,we investigate how patients cope with this in daily life and the role art and culture play as sources of meaning-making. Additionally, we develop andbevaluate interventions to better support people with advanced cancer in dealingbwith existential issues.
To further explore and deepen these themes together, we are organizing the first CCO Symposium. During this event, speakers will reflect from their own fields on theoretical, methodological, and practical opportunities and challenges related to co-creative research within supportive care for people with (advanced) cancer.

We look forward to welcoming you!
You can register by sending an email to Niels van Poecke (n.vanpoecke@amsterdamumc.nl) with the subject “CCO symposium.”
