Amsterdam Symposium Palliative Care 2026

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, the 14th edition of the Amsterdam Symposium on Palliative Care will take place. The theme is “The use of art forms in palliative care to improve communication and care outcomes.” Hanneke van Laarhoven, member of the steering committee of the Art-Based Learning in Palliative Care project and head of the Medical Oncology department at Amsterdam UMC, will play a prominent role in the program with a lecture on the power of art in healthcare. Niels van Poecke, post-doc of the Culture, Contingency, and Oncology research line, will introduce keynote speaker Giorgis Tsiris, professor in Edinburgh. Also participating are Christiaan Rhodius, palliative care physician, and Madelon van Riel, project leader of the Art and Care Program at Cordaan.  
The program is aimed at healthcare providers such as caregivers, nurses, nursing specialists, and medical specialists. Spiritual caregivers, students, policymakers, educators, and others are also welcome.
