In the Netherlands, we notice more and more artists, artistic researchers, clinicians, and scholars exploring the potential of art-based research in healthcare contexts. Yet many of us are working in isolation, facing similar questions about methods, ethics, collaboration and dissemination. We warmly invite you to be part of this growing community of practice dedicated to deepening and expanding the field of Art-Based Research in healthcare.
Beginning in January 2026, we will host monthly online meetings on the first Thursday of the month (15:00-17:00), each featuring:
- Two 30-minute presentations
- One academic or theoretical perspective
- One artist, practitioner or field expert
- 45-minute discussion with all participants
Together we will explore transdisciplinary collaboration between artists and healthcare practitioners with key themes such as:
- Participatory art-based research methods
- Care Aesthetics: the art of perception
- Art as a catalyst for conversations
- Non-verbal research methods: rich pictures, drawing, music and dance
- Creative forms of sharing knowledge: graphic novel, film, exhibitions - art as forms of research & communication
- Art-Based Research Techniques: the expanded field. What skills do you need to be able to do?
These sessions are designed to support shared learning, collective reflection and methodological innovation. All presentations will be documented, and a growing list of resources, references and methods will be made available.
